Writing as action

I started with writing and letters. As writing my self made identity everywhere i went. Writing and signature is something that has meant everything to the human identity. Being able to write was tantamount to being. Writing was an important status symbol, a symbol of having an expanded worldview - one could read the Holy Scriptures. Drawing and writing, in our development as human beings, are equated with being an individual. To have and feel that you can express something, you can act and you can communicate. In tandem with the digitalisation of society, handwriting and writing and experiencing one’s own unique handwriting as an expression is a threatened human practice.

In my own work, I have gone from more figurative drawings to having developed a fragmentation of the previously clearly figurative motifs into an expression in which
I directly base the idea that writing is drawing and drawing is writing. Since 2014, I have worked with the juxtaposition between writing and drawing and putting aside characters as action. Writing is akin to acting. Acting freely in our part of the world is simply threat- ened if we do not experience having a voice and a way of communicating. Today, our identity and signature has been greatly reduced to a number issued by the state. In Den- mark a NemID. I see it as a possible write-off that by virtue of the reduction to a number, the individual does not have the experience of being and thus does not have the expe- rience of being able to create. You design a design with a dash and this design of your signature supports the identity of the individual. The act of writing is for each letter that is written a unique creation and a gesture that can be refined and requires a lot of practice. Eg. Form writing, oblique writing and calligraphic expressions have been seen as an elevated art form.

The problem is the following; If the writing disappears, whether it is the automatic script, the fiction or the everyday writing that disappears from our everyday life, then in the long run the art will get cramped conditions and the free human and the free action will slowly disappear. Since 2014, through drawing and writing, I have collected what I see as traces of action (drawings on paper that are fragments of larger works).
I see a passivity and a huge lack of understanding that it is possible to act independently in our society.
. Throughout my practice, I will continue to work with writing as a form of expression, not as a written word, but as an action.

Stay tuned for more.

Cheking out/zooming in 2020

If you are reading this i hope you are here because you saw my recent instagram post about me taking a break from that. For a long time I have been thinking about why i was oploading constanly on social media, everytime a small drawing a studio visit and so constanly thinking about of this could be nice on instagram painting something drawing something and then thinking okay i want to share this on insta. And afterwards looking at who liked it and so on. I came to the conclusion recently that the reson why i make art is not about how many likes it get on some app. To be honest i lost focus in the selfpromoting game. I staeted to feel that maybe i just produced work to the insta feed. I dont want to do that. I dont want to keep a constant flow of content flowing because of a pressure on demand or to get more followers or whatever. I want to produce art and work with art to, explore and create something that i feel makes sense. And then at some point somebody maybe recognize that what i was doing raised some questions. I want to go back to when i created something with out thinking about anybody should see it. A time to focus on the work on the content on the output. It feels good to be in my stuido now with not feeding anybody but my self with time to think consider produce make mistakes make some more, and just do. It feels amazing and as truly freedom to not feel a selfmade pressure of needing to opload the drawing of the day. I am thinking that it probably will have the effect that everybody will think i stopped doing art or stopped making anything. But that is not the case. But where do you see my works then? well as it is right now. I am not doing anything to promote myself. I just want to hang back produce and think. Hiding in a way. And then i will still be here on this blog. If you read this and want to comment, or want to know whats up, or maybe even feeling for dropping by at my phsiscal studio. feel free.

Maybe it is a mistake and maybe i miss out on a lot of jobs likes and attention. I dont know. But i do know that i used an incredeble amount on time, on both facebook and insta. And i now want to use that somewhere else.
I might sound like a old fart.
I am looking forward to start to create for my self in the first place. And then maybe i will start to share something again, if insta or whatever still exists at that point.

Next update on friday. With more thought about my work, some exhibition documentation, and more. allways feel free to hit me up with a email. Have a nice weeked.

WHO IS AFRAID OF THE ABC

Exhibtion in Kunst i Kubik Malmø Sweden December 2019
Curated by littlefinger magazine

Konstnären Anders Reventlov visar installationen Who is afraid of the ABC som ställer frågor kring varför människor kommit att frukta bokstäver som uttrycksform inom konsten.

English:
In the installation Who is afraid of the ABC, i want to asks questions about why people have come to fear letters as a form of expression in art. I turn to the personal writing. With references back in art history, to Duchamp's unconventional ideas, to Malmö Konsthall's exhibition TECKEN (1978), I see the importance of broadening the understanding of what can be art. The installation highlights the fear of what is written as an artistic expression, especially in its unauthorized form, in the common public space. Why this fear? With the installation Who is afraid of the ABC, where i show several drawings and a canvas containing written elements, but not as statements or as things to be understood / read. Possibly, awareness of human existence and of personal writing is growing. As an e-shop window, you look at something that may seem protected and preserved for the afterlife. A memory of something important, something that once was. Or you are reminded that we should and should retain the right and opportunity to express ourselves freely as people.

N OR M Udstilling/Exhibition 2019

N OR M Drawn Identities

Roskilde Festival 2019

This is my contribution for this years Roskilde Festival. Allways fun to paint before the Festival opens officially, see and experience all the other graffiti writers painting and doing their best. I painted the above wall, in 6 hours. No skethes prepared just going with was in my mind at the time. I usually never bring a sketch to any bigger, project. I have a fear that it is a bad idea not bringing a sketch, because i might just do what i allways do and not really develop anything on the spot. While at the same time, i feel free and have so much fun working from scratch and the headache it gives me is worht it all. Hope alot of you enjoyed it and saw in real life. If not you can see it here, and the process of my work. stay tuned for more.

Wall of Change Hillerød
